For many, a trip to Tanzania is all about witnessing the Great Migration. Contrary to popular belief, the migration is not a single event but a continuous, year-round process. Each part of this cyclical journey offers uniquely different experiences. The migration is a dynamic return journey, with herds moving back and forth, sometimes covering over 40 km overnight. It’s not one massive herd but numerous large and small herds, each with its own agenda.
We are the only ones who can guarantee a Great Migration experience. We don’t wait for the herds to come to us; we take you to them. Our camps are designed to move with the herds, keeping us ahead of their movements. Strategically positioned, our Migration Camp offers the best chance to witness the migration, with rates designed to allow longer stays, ensuring you experience this natural wonder.
Important Note: While we guarantee the migration experience if you stay long enough, we cannot guarantee a river crossing. River crossings are just one part of the annual cycle.
We ensure that at least one camp is located close to the seasonal migration routes, with sites confirmed closer to travel dates. We often have a second base camp en route to the migration camp, typically in the Seronera area of the central Serengeti, ideal for radiating in all directions during irregular seasons.
When To Visit
Migration Seasons
Calving Season (Jan-Mar): Near Ndutu, where most calves are born in early February. The wildebeest stay as late into March as possible for the mothers and calves to gain enough strength to move north. It’s a time of abundance on the plains.
Rutting Season (June): Also known as the breeding season, a fascinating time to observe the interactions of male bulls protecting their harems.
Mara River Crossing Season (July-Oct): Our camp is located in the Northern Serengeti, near Kogatende, for access to the Mara River. The peak period is August to early September, with crossings possible from July to October.
Follow the Herds
Migration Updates
We have a network of pilots, safari guides, and lodge managers who keep us updated on the whereabouts of the big herds, especially leading up to the first crossings. They provide us with pictures, videos, GPS locations, and more, helping us follow the broader migration trends. We also track collared wildebeest, providing valuable data on migration patterns.

- Northern Tanzania Circuit: Our little camps are commonly found in the Serengeti National Park, Tarangire NP, and Mkomazi National Park. They are also spotted in WMA areas, near Karatu, Moshi, Usambaras, and beyond.
- Southern Tanzania Circuit: Our camps are ready for any southern destination or beyond. Send us your travel requests, and we’ll be ready to go.
