Camping with 5 star service
We are just finishing our safari and reflecting on the past two weeks, can easily say our night here with Zeb and his crew was one of the most memorable. The meals prepared by the chef rivalled those of 5 star hotels. Drinks were ice cold. Again and again.
The camp provides the most real bush experience you can have. Unfenced and close to the animals...what a dream. The tents , with either cots or double mattress, are so comfortable, clean and well maintained.Food amazing with lots of variety. Intense wildlife experience in stunning unspoilt environment
We have experienced natural wonders over thankfully long lives but it is difficult to adequately express the visceral intensity of such encounters as we had with Carel & Sally, and their guide/ drivers Zeb and Maschine. Our thanks to all your team at Woga and Simba camps for delicious meals, hot showers and TOILETS. Their kindness and patience in answering endless questions were unfailing. Help save the Great Migration-stay at Great Migration Camp and travel responsibly!
If you are like me and always wanted to see the Great Migration, there is no better way to do it than to join the folks at the Great Migration Camp. East Africa’s Great Migration is truly one of the greatest spectacles on earth. Every year enormous numbers of animals move in a circular pattern as they traverse Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti and the Masai Mara to find food, water and a safe place to give birth. But like myself what you may not know is that the Great Migration is in danger of dissappearing altogether if measure are not taken to protect the habitat. Many factors are affecting the ability of the animals to move along their traditional routes and studies in some areas indicate that that the number of wildebeest may have declined as much as 80% on certain migratory routes. This shift is not just affecting the migratory animals such as wildebeest and zebra, but also the predators that rely on them for food. Eco-tourism is one way to slow down the decinegration of the migratory routes as it gives local people an eco-friendly livlihood option, but this only works when done correctly. The folks at Great Migration Camp have been studying the Great Migration for over 20 years. And they are actively involved in not only helping the local people develop alternative livlihoods but are also helping the government promote some of their lesser visitied parks such as Mkozi National Park, the only place you are likely to see Black Rhino or Painted Dogs (Wild dogs). luxury comfort and a full immersion low ecological impact experience
Great Migration Camps very specifically strikes the sweet spot for luxury comfort and a full immersion low ecological impact experience. This is the closest thing to having a family member in the business you will find (without actually having a family member in the industry). Camping tents are the nicest we've been in (including in USA) with great sleeping pads and very comfortable pillows and sleeping bags. Oddly, the camp shower was one of the most predictable showers we experienced in Tanzania (including in luxury lodges), the water was always hot and immediate. The food was Incredible and great efforts were made to accommodate diet restrictions. The guides have in uncanny ability to find wildlife and are very fun and informative on the game rides. We even had Wi-Fi in the evenings to catch up on emails and send pics back home. We included a couple of nights in Ngorongoro Park (highly recommended), and spent several nights in the Serengeti. If you are contemplating a self-drive safari (which I contemplated but wisely chose not to) do yourself a favor and contact Sally Grierson with Great Migrations - even if you make the mistake of trying the self-drive you will find them an incredible asset. Carel Verhoef took us out on a walking safari which was without a doubt one of the trip highlights! Truly, the holiday of a lifetime...
We spent a whole week at Great Migration Camps, and really wished it had been two or three weeks! So long in the planning since 2019 under Sally and Carel's meticulous organisation and Mashine's wonderful driving and guiding for our holiday of a lifetime... We came feeling like we were visiting old friends and left knowing that we will remember our time in your warm and caring company for ever. We were so blessed with our holiday in the national parks of Northern Tanzania and especially our week with you all in the Northern Serengeti, close to the Mara River, making magical sightings of birds and animals on every single day. We are both still fizzing like well aged champagne and Trevor is still finding birds to identify in our thousands of pictures... Thank you all so much for making our trip so special and for being such good friends, almost like family now. Unforgettable experience
Absolutely perfect! The service, the experience, the food, the care and affection for guests. Sally patiently helped us think through every detail of the trip, suggesting and explaining the options so we could choose. We had the wonderful luck of having Machine as our guide, which was spectacular. Machine is a wonderful person, as well as being, without a doubt, one of the best guides in the region. The tents are clean and comfortable, the bathroom is great and the food is fabulous. It's a life experience! Migration of the Wilderbeast across Mara River
It was an amazing trip and Sally, Carel and the team looked after us so well. We got to see all the wildlife up close including the migration of the Wilderbeast across the Mara river on a number of occasions. The whole team were great and we really appreciated their attention to details and efforts to make this a holiday of a lifetime. Unforgettable Serengeti
We were very lucky to experience life in the Serengeti with the absolute best in the business! Wild camping with Great Migration Camps was unlike anything I have ever experienced. It made for a truly immersive experience amplified by the sights, sounds and smells of the bush. Carl and Zeb's knowledge of the animals and ecosystem is commendable with unforgettable wild life sightings pretty much guaranteed! After a long day of game driving, the chefs at camp had the bush shower all set up for us and lured us to the dining tent with the most delicious smells coming from the open air kitchen. The food was delicious and meals varied and plentiful - all meticulously planned. Every main course was preceded by a hot soup and freshly baked rolls and followed by a yummy dessert. The Essence of Safari !
This is a no 'non-sense', very rooted experience in the bush. Yet very human and fulfilling. You feel the EXPERIENCE and the LOVE for the bush. Great Migration Camps offers the opportunity, through amazing guiding and professionalism to BE with the animal and vegetal kingdoms and witness the cycles of life and death, to learn and feel what it is to belong to the bush, even for a week. The camp caters to a small group (up to 6) , allowing for fluid and adaptable logistics. Food is great. Daily schedules give plenty of time in the bush but are not overwhelming. And a hot shower awaits you when the day is finished ! Everything is organised so that you feel at ease, the team adapts to your needs and wishes, yet ensuring safety and respect of the environment. There will be TIME for you to witness the communication between elephants and lions. To see how the hunt is prepared by the predators. To play and rest. We participated in the first (improvised) international bush petanque tournament of the park and had great moments as a family ! Last but not least, watching the stars every night around the fire in a complete dark environment was priceless. The team is also very knowledgeable and involved in conservation work !
