Experience the Great Wildebeest Migration

We follow the herds. Join us for a camping adventure in the Serengeti, Tanzania

Set against the backdrop of the great wildebeest migration, our completely mobile, self-sufficient and environmentally-friendly camp can travel anywhere in the Serengeti depending on the time of year and the stage and location of the migration, giving you a front row set to one of Mother Nature’s greatest events.

Great Migration Camps Mobile follows the wildebeest migration on a micro scale, guaranteeing migration sightings and experiences. The wildebeest migrate all year, moving in a circular pattern which encompasses the greater Serengeti/Mara eco system. GMC mobile camp moves location as the wildebeest move, with the ability to move camp in a day. Like the wildebeest we stay in tune with the natural environment, weather conditions and where the herds are gathered.

More information on the GMC experience, facilities and services available on safari with us

The Great Wildebeest Migration happens 365 days a year but we’re the only ones that can guarantee you’ll see it. We don’t wait for the herds to come to us, we take you to them – leaving no trace.

Great Migration Camps experience
Great Migration Camps mobile focuses on the experience of being in the bush and encountering wildlife. The important stuff is done really well: first-class guiding with comprehensive knowledge of the terrain, geology, history, geography, environment and birds and wildlife, reliable vehicles & remote and intimate camping spots.

Your everyday requirements are not left to chance – good coffee, cold beers, hot showers, ice for your drinks, comfortable bedding and tasty wholesome food cooked over an open fire all add up to truly unforgettable experiences.

GMC is mobile
GMC_mobile camp moves as the wildebeest migration moves so exact location months in advance is hard to predict.  We will always know our location before you arrive as well as the closest airstrip.

There are two fairly consistent events in the migration cycle, where you will be sure to find us.
Calving Season (Feb-March): Ndutu area, Southern Serengeti
Crossing Season (July-Oct): Mara River, Northern Serengeti.

International Arrival
Kilimanjaro International Airport, (JRO) in Arusha, Tanzania

Domestic Flights
Daily flights to and from the Serengeti National Park from Arusha or Kilimanjaro airports.  GMC will collect you from the closest airstrip to camp.

Guided Safari
Starting in Arusha, your professional English speaking driver guide will take you from your accommodation on a journey with multiple stops to GMC mobile camp.  Drive or fly back.

Self-Drive
Hire a fully equipped 4×4 vehicle, with or without camping equipment, and explore Tanzania at your own pace. We’ll send you directions to camp or arrange a meeting point.

Mess Tent
A Bedouin-style stretch tent forms the mess tent and communal dining area and provides shade from the African sun. Side panel shade-netting protects against the elements and prevailing winds.  Underneath the shelters are the dining tables and camp chairs, which can be moved around the campfire for sundowners and fireside stories of an evening.

Power
The camp is run off solar power and we do not use a generator. We avoid single use plastic to the best of our ability. Charging station available but please no power intensive appliances.

Water
Fresh drinking water available – we try to avoid single use plastic – please bring a refillable water bottle. Water is precious – kindly use wisely when showering.

Waste
Our trash is separated, then re-used, recycled or taken out of the park for disposal.

Working Trailer
The trailer is a working trailer, containing the camp kitchen. Please take care when accessing the kitchen.

Accommodation
